Brouilly

Brouilly is the southernmost crus of the Beaujolais.

Brouilly is the southernmost crus of the Beaujolais. A Crus is a wine village that is allowed to conduct its own appellation because they have proven their quality and individuality. Brouilly is a medium-sized village with a good 1200 ha of vineyard. The wines are fruity and can be drunk young. In general, they are more fruit-driven and have more body than other wines from the Beaujolais. In practice, the wines only vary considerably. The much smaller Cote de Brouilly crus produces wines that can grow older and develop more complexity. In Brouilly, only red wines are made from Gamay.

Mont Brouilly

Cote de Brouilly is the geographical center of this wine region. The vineyards on the slope have a different surface than the vineyards that are lower and form the Brouilly. On the slope, the ground consists of sand and granite that retain the heat well. The lower vineyards have different surfaces. In the west, it looks more like the slope. The more you go south, the more clay you find. Here the soil is also more humid due to the less drainage of rainwater.
