The wine regions of Portugal
Portugal consists for a particularly large part of wine regions.
Although Portugal has a long tradition of making wine, much has been invested in recent years to renew wine production. This modernization goes hand in hand with the traditional winemaking method. It produces beautiful wines from numerous regions that are being rediscovered.
ALENTEJO
The Alentejo wine region is a large, peaceful and quiet area in Portugal. When you are in this region you regularly see a vineyard, but it does not have the appearance that it is a special wine region. Nevertheless, considerable investments have been made in this region in recent years.
DOURO
The Douro wine region is best known in Portugal. First of course because Port comes from here. However, very good other non-fortified wines also come from. Port still dominates, but large wines with a different style are also made from the same wines.
VINHO VERDE
Vinho Verde is a beautiful wine region in the north of Portugal. If you look at surface, it is one of the largest DOCs and produces exceptional wines. The name Vinho Verde means “green wine”. It cannot really be more appropriate because the region is very green.
