Cadillac is a village just below Bordeaux in the South West of France. The village has gained fame through the production of white wines with grapes with Botrytis. The drop is on the Garonne along with the other wine villages Cerons and Loupiac. The lying by the river provides the good conditions for making sweet white wines.
In the vineyard
The wines in Cadillac are made from Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. During production, most of the wine must contain at least 255 g / L of natural sugar. In addition, the wine must contain at least 12% alcohol. The wines do not have the status of Sauternes but are recognized as good quality wine. Because the wines from Sauternes are quite a price, it is a very serious alternative.
Red wines
In addition to the white, red wines are also made. The classic Bordeaux grapes are used for these wines: The Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and the Merlot. The wines are sold under the appellation Cotes de Bordeaux. Various wine villages are covered by this appellation and are not geographically driven. The choice was economical and to simplify the classification.
