Clairette de Die
Clairette de Die is a sparkling wine from the southern French Rhone region.
Sparkling wine from the southern French Rhone region. Against the imposing foothills of the Alps and in the valley of the river Drôme, lie the beautiful vineyards of the Clairette de Die. The village “Die” is located exactly between the northern and southern Rhone region and therefore distinguishes itself because it is not clear which area it actually belongs to. Anyone who says Clairette de Die immediately thinks of a sparkling a la Champagne from the Rhône. It is therefore definitely the major specialty of this appellation. This slightly sweet “Champagne” from the Rhone valley is not only world famous in its sparkling jacket. We also find the grape in all kinds of wines, such as the impressive Châteauneuf du Pape, wines from Mediterranean Provence and the accessible wines from Languedoc. In short, a beautiful all-rounder.
The most important grape for this appellation is called Clairette, but AOP Clairette de Die consists of at least 75% of Muscat grapes. The wine is made in the traditional way, the Méthode Ancestrale. The must first be fermented in the cuve (fermenting vessel), at as low a temperature as possible. Before the end of fermentation arrives, the wine is already in the bottle and after fermentation and maturation, the sediment is immediately removed in the bottle. The wine is therefore naturally sparkling and because the fermentation has not fully taken place, this results in light and very fruity sparkling wines with a small sweetness.
