Corbieres

The Corbières is one of the wildest areas of France with one of the lowest population densities.

It is picturesque with wine growing areas interspersed with garrigues and mountainous landscape. It is mainly located in the Aude department and partly in the Pyrénées-Orientales department. The Aude River borders the Corbières in the west and north. To the south it borders the Agly River and to the east the Mediterranean Sea. The Corbières takes its name from an amalgamation of “cor” a pre-Celtic word for “rock” and “Berre” from the Berre River, which runs through Durban. The eastern part of the Corbières with its Etangs, borders the Mediterranean Sea and is also called the Corbières Maritimes. It has its own distinctive climate and characteristic vegetation known as thermo mediterranean vegetation.
