Crozes Hermitage
Crozes-Hermitage is a wine-growing region in the Rhône
Crozes-Hermitage is a wine-growing region in the Rhône, named after the village of the same name. AOC in 1937 for red and white wine. The vines grow on the left bank of the river. The wine-growing region is the largest appellation in the northern Rhone region with 1280 hectares of vineyard land. The grapes grow on the plains around the famous Hermitage Hill. The red wines mainly come from these grounds.
The red wines are from the syrah grape and are lighter and less refined than Hermita wines. We have something of the robust intensity of Hermitage. A maximum of 15% may be added of the white grape marsanne and roussanne. The tastiest have berries and cherries and can have firm tannins and be tight. Most wines must be drunk within 3-5 years.
