Juliénas

Juliénas is part of the Mâconnais on the border of the Saône and Loire

And is therefore part of the Beaujolais. The village is small, has around 800 inhabitants and is around 15 km from Mâcon and 60 km from Lyon. The viticulture is old and the history goes back to 2000 years. Characteristic of the wine is that the young can be drunk and can be stored for a few years. The soil with clay produces wines with aromas of peaches, red fruit and flowers. The most common grape is the Gamay Noire. This can grow enormously in the Juliénas. In addition, it is permitted to plant up to 15% other grape varieties. These are Chardonnay, melon de Bourgogne and Aligoté. Harvesting is compulsory and the transport of the vintage must take place in low trailers in order to preserve the integrity of the grape. Serve at a temperature of 13 ° C with “coq au vin”, feathered game and poultry in sauces.
