Menetou Salon

Menetou-Salon is a village at the eastern end of the Loire Valley wine region of France.

It has its own Menetou-Salon appellation, covering white, red and rose wines made from Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir.

Forecast by many to be a potential rival for the famous Sancerre appellation (its immediate north-eastern neighbor), Menetou-Salon is rapidly establishing its reputation at an international level. The appellation’s crisp, refreshing Sauvignon Blanc and light, fruit-driven Pinot Noir wines are invariably less expensive than equivalent wines labeled as Sancerre and are from very similar terroir.

The Menetou-Salon appellation was introduced in November 1936 and now accounts for about 1235 acres (500ha) of vines spread across 11 parishes around the village itself. These produce roughly 30000hL of wine each year, a figure that is steadily increasing in line with the appellation’s reputation.
