Meursault wine

Meursault wine is counted among the top of the white burgundy wines.

The vineyards around the village of Meursault produce quality wines that are rich but at the same time very refreshing. No grand crus can be found within this appellation. Very good premiere crus are made. The Meursault wine labels often state a separate name for the vineyard. The reason for this is that the winemakers want to emphasize the individual character of the different vineyards.

Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc

Meursault wine is produced in the municipality of Meursault within the Côte de Beaune of Burgundy. The Appellation d’origine contrôlée (AOC) Meursault can be used to make white wine from Chardonnay and Pinot blanc grapes and red wine from Pinot Noir grapes. The production of white wine clearly has the upper hand. About 98% percent of the wine made here is white. Both the Chardonnay and the Pinot blanc may be used for the white wine. Most Meursault wine, however, consists of 100% Chardonnay.

Color, smell and taste of Meursault wine

The style of the Meursault wines clearly has an influence of maturing in oak barrels. This means that we often encounter “aroma of butter” in the description of these wines. The color of the wine is nice golden yellow. The wine usually has aromas of butter, honey, hazelnuts and lime blossom. In some cases, nuances of wildflowers and gingerbread are observed.

Food and drink

Meursault wine that is young is best drunk as an aperitif or in combination with light starters. A wine that is a bit more mature can be drunk well with poultry. In addition, the wine combines well with asparagus. The better wines that are much creamier can also be drunk with goat cheese. Many people think that white wine should be cold. Cooling is fine but this wine should not be drunk colder than 12 ° C.
