Pauillac
Pauillac is considered by many to be the capital of the wine of the Médoc.
The place is part of the Lesparre-Médoc district. The municipality is especially famous for the three premiers’ crus: Château Mouton-Rothschild, Château Lafite-Rothschild and Château Latour.
Color, smell and taste
The style of the Pauillac wine is elegant and highly concentrated. Most wines have a high content of cassis due to the presence of the Cabernet Sauvignon.
Grapes
The most important grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Carmenère, Petit verdot and Malbec are also used.

The top of these are: Lafite Rothschild, Latour, Mouton Rothschild, Pichon-Longueville Baron, Pichon-Longueville Lalande, Duhart-Milon, Lynch Bages, Lynch Moussas, Pontet Canet, Haut-Bages-Libéral, Pibran, Clerc-Milon, Grand- Puy-Lacoste, Batailley.
The Pauillac terroir
The vineyards along the river have pebble layers that are nowhere deeper than in Pauillac. Further inland the pebble is more mixed with sandstone. In addition, the iron ore layer is missing so that the rain that falls in the vineyards is quickly removed.
