Pinot Meunier
The Pinot Meunier gives light red wines or mild rosé with a fruity scent of violets and young red fruit.
Wine to drink young. But usually the Pinot Meunier is used as an ingredient for sparkling wines, especially Champagne. It is probably a descendant of the Pinot Noir. It can withstand cold summers and that is why you find it in Northern wine regions, such as the French Champagne. For a white Champage, the skins are quickly removed, and the juice mixed with that of white grapes, usually that of Chardonnay. You see him in Germany under the name Schwarzriesling. Germans often make cépage wine from it. Red, rosé or sparkling. In the German wine region of Württemberg, the Pinot Meunier is responsible for the local specialty: the pink Schillerwein.
