Prosecco
Most Prosecco wines should be drunk young and fresh.
The grape Prosecco
The grape is actually only found in Italy, in the region of Venice and Frioul. The grape has the ideal properties to make sparkling wines. The structure of the grape is light and the grapes do not contain too many sugars. This means that the acidity is perfect and ensures fresh wines. Prosecco is almost always a wine without a date. The wine is made with the Charmat or also called “tank method”. This means that in comparison with Champagne the second fermentation does not take place in the bottle but in steel tanks. The intention is to preserve the fresh fruity of the Prosecco grape. This compares with the presence of the yeast flavor in Champagne.
Three types of Prosecco
There are 3 types of prosecco, frizzante, spumante and tranquillo. The most famous variant, prosecco frizzante, has a somewhat lower carbonic pressure. The frizzante is bottled and closed with a cork and a piece of string. Prosecco spumante contains more carbonation and more mousse. The spumante is bottled in a sturdy bottle and, just like champagne, sealed with a crown cap. Tranquillo prosecco is not sparkling but just a still wine.
The difference between prosecco and Champagne
Although prosecco is drunk a lot, prosecco does not always receive the appreciation it deserves. This is partly due to champagne. Too quickly this drink is seen as a cheaper alternative to champagne. And that is strange. Because prosecco has nothing to do with champagne. The comparison does not do justice to either. Prosecco is characterized by its freshness and fruitiness. These are characteristics that are much less suitable for Champagne and, for example, cava.
What do you eat with prosecco?
Prosecco is not known as eating wine. After all, it is most drunk as an aperitif. When the wine is combined with food, they are snacks (finger food). And that is also possible. At the same time, prosecco is great to combine with white meat (such as chicken and other poultry), light pasta dishes and salads. Drink the wine in a narrow glass.
Quantity or quality
Partly due to the popularity, the quality of prosecco is not always great either. That is the reason that sometimes something scolding can be done about prosecco. When a certain type of wine becomes popular, there is almost always a battle between quantity and quality. Because of the popularity, production often increases, and this is almost always at the expense of quality. For prosecco it means that there is a big difference in the quality of the wines. Very simple wines are available with a corresponding low price. In addition, very good wines are also made. Paying a little more certainly means a much better wine in the case of prosecco.
