Pommard
Pommard is perhaps the most famous wine region of Burgundy.
The wines have an excellent reputation. Côte de Beaune usually gives lighter and supple wines from the Cote de Nuits, but Pommard is the big exception. Its richer soil produces stubborn, dark, tannin-rich red wines, some of which never lose their first donation. The best, for example Domaine du Comte Arnand and Domaine de Courcel, are just as structured and tenable as those of Cote de Nuits Gevrey Chambertin or Nuits-St-Georges. The best premier crus are usually Rugiens and Épenots and often have to mature for at least 8 years.
Color, odor and taste
The wines have an intense red color and have a very powerful scent of black cherries, herbs and leather. They are full-bodied fatty wines with a lot of power. The wines can be combined well with red meat, grilled game and poultry. In addition, the wine naturally fits well with a Burgundian stew. If you want to combine the wine with cheese you have to do this with cheeses with a strong taste.
